Beth Ann Zinkievich

Get to know Beth Ann

What are you doing in school?
"I’m studying music education. In other words, I get to spend my days making great music with lots of great people!"
How long have you been singing in choirs?
"I think my first experience singing in a choir was probably in 2nd grade. So it’s been a while."
What is your favorite musical memory?
"When I was a freshman in high school, my school’s chamber choir got to sing at the Kennedy Center with the Washington Chorus for their Candlelight Christmas concerts. There was just something so magical about singing Christmas music with such wonderful musicians in such an amazing performance space."
Do you have any special talents or interests outside of music?
"I love to crochet! I’ve also danced (ballet and tap) for about 14 years. For most of those years, I’ve been at Elite Dance Studio in Cloverly[, Maryland], and I actually started working there during my senior year of high school."
Who is your favorite composer?
"I really like Fauré. In my sophomore year of high school, I sang his Cantique de Jean Racine, and ever since then, I’ve just been enamored with his music."
Who's your favorite non-classical musical artist?
"Definitely Radiohead. A lot of their music is pretty experimental, and I think that’s especially exciting for musicians. Also, they have some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard."
What song have you not been able to stop listening to?
"I listen to a lot of barbershop music, and recently I’ve been really into Mam’selle, as performed by Vocal Spectrum. I love barbershop music in general, but this song in particular is so good because it has a lot of jazzy harmonies and it also has one of the best deceptive resolutions I’ve ever heard."
On a long road trip, would you rather an eagle or a chinchilla pick the music, and why?
"I would want a chinchilla to pick the music because I don’t know if I would trust an eagle to make good choices. This may or may not have anything to do with my long standing dislike for birds as an institution."
What’s your favorite book you’ve read?
"When I was younger, there was a series called The Mother-Daughter Book Club and I loved those books so much that I made my mom read them with me."
What’s your favorite sports team?
"The Buffalo Bills!!! You don’t have to tell me they suck - I already know. #billsmafia"
What's your favorite thing about singing with Lux?

"My favorite thing about singing with Lux (aside from the amazing people!) is the fact that everyone comes into rehearsal knowing their music really well so we can move through a lot of rep rather quickly and put out an excellent product."
If you could turn anything purple, what would it be?
"I would turn the sky purple. There would definitely be a variety of shades of purple in the sky, but the predominant shade would be lavender."
What's your favorite piece you've sung with Lux?

"My favorite piece that I’ve sung with Lux so far is probably Maria durch because there’s so much good music packed into such a short piece."
What's the most interesting fact about you?
"My parents are both music teachers, so I’m biologically a choir kid ;)"
