Anya Trudeau

(Alto)

Get to know Anya

What are you doing in school?
"
I'm a freshman in college! I attend University of Maryland as a double major in English and Government & Politics, concentrating in International Relations. In the spring, I plan to audition for a Vocal Performance minor. I am currently playing club lacrosse, I joined a fitness group called Chaarg, I am part of a creative writing club, a book club, and I am an alto in UMD Chamber Singers."
How long have you been singing in choirs?
"Nine years"
What is your favorite musical memory?
"
Making up acapella songs with my choir and randomly singing them in public places, like in New York City."
Do you have any special talents or interests outside of music?
"
Well since you asked, I must say I break it down to the Veggie Tales theme song pretty well. I love all areas of writing, lacrosse, general fitness, piano, guitar, and ukulele. I'm currently trying to become fluent in French (c'est difficile...) and want to study abroad next semester. I love love love traveling. I am also a foodie, so if you ever want to go eat real cuisine with me I am 100% down!! I bet I can outbinge you in any Netflix show."
Who is your favorite composer? Why?
"PAUL MEALOR. I met him and hands down he is the best person. He told some amazing stories, was super friendly, and invited some of the Lux members to drink with him until he realized we were all under 21 (thanks Reagan). His music is beautiful and I love singing it. I hope to see that legend again someday. A true homie if there ever was one."
Who's your favorite non-classical musical artist?
"There are so many I love…probably Maroon 5 and Sara Bareilles are close to the top of that list. If you haven’t heard Adam Levine sing The Way You Look Tonight, I suggest you stop reading my babble and go make your life better."
What song have you not been able to stop listening to?
"BIG BANK by YG, and Adorn by Miguel. The beat on BIG BANK slaps and I could listen to Miguel sing all day."
What's your favorite book you've read?
"
That's a hard question to answer... The John Carter of Mars series by Edgar Rice Burroughs is fantastic. I also love Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (if you read it and want to know my opinion on the book, you can read my senior thesis on my writing blog). Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen is also great. I have many more!"
If all of the appliances in your kitchen came to life, which would they elect as their leader?

"Gotta be the griddle. My five younger siblings love pancakes."
What's your favorite sports team?
"Rock Chalk Jayhawk KU, baby! Kansas City Jayhawks - best college basketball team out there."
Would you rather spend a day with Ellen or Jennifer Lawrence?
"Who doesn’t want to spend a day with Ellen?"
What's your favorite thing about singing in Lux?
"What more can I ask for than a group of friends that sings because they are passionate about it and hello we do it very well. Also, we love what we do? We sing super cool music? What’s YOUR favorite thing about singing with Lux? Everything? Yeah it’s pretty great to sing with incredibly talented people who know how to crack jokes every now and then."
What's your favorite song you've sung with Lux?
"Probably The Heart’s Reflection [by Daniel Elder]. We sang it well, and there’s one climax that’s incredible to sing every time. If I had to choose a second though, it’s Entreat me not to leave you [by Dan Forrest]. That was the first choral song I really ever heard, and it means a lot to me."
What's the most interesting fact about you?
"
The Prime Minister of Canada is my first cousin 11 times removed. That makes me basically royalty, so you can all bow down, thanks."
Picture
Anya Trudeau has been with Lux for nine seasons, and plans on many more. Anya has been singing in school choirs since age 10, but screaming obnoxiously to Bon Jovi since before she can remember. At St. John's College High School, she sang with Advanced Vocal Studies (AVS) which performed in the Bahamas, Carnegie Hall, and won first place at Festival Disney. Outside of school, Anya sang with the Honors Youth Choir of the Choral Arts Society of Washington under Brandon Straub, performing at the Kennedy Center under the direction of Scott Tucker, and at Tanglewood alongside the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Charles Dutoit. Anya currently sings with the University of Maryland School of Music's most select choral ensemble, Chamber Singers. She is an English and Government & Politics double major. Anya studies voice with Michelle Orhan and studied piano under Margaret Bunuan. She also has six piano students of her own. Anya is self-taught on the guitar and ukulele, using those skills mostly to walk around the house strumming on her instruments and purposefully singing off-key to remind her family and her dog that she loves them.
